CONFERENCE REMITS GATHERING BEGINS NEXT WEEK. The Conference of the Agricultural and Pastoral Associations will be held in the Chamber of Commerce, Wellington, on Tuesday,' July 28, commencing at 10 a.m. Mr. B. A. Gampbell will tak<s the chair at the opening. In accordance with tho practice at previous conferences, the following have been invited to attend, and to take part in all the proceedings:—The Hon. W. P. Massey (the Premier and Minister of Agriculture), Sir "Walter Buchanan, Professor R. E. Alexander, Messrs. E A Campbell; J. fi. Wilson, J. Studholme, W. H. Beetham, H. A. Knight, J A Pond, FC.S., J?. S.'Pope, C.-J. .Calces, D.T.Sc, T. W. Kirk, F;L.S., Jas. Duncan,' D. Cuddie, and the members of the Board of Agriculture. The Prime Minister will open the proceedings with an address. . Among the remits to be considered are the following:— Live Stock. By Auckland.—"That if it is;not practicable to obtain compulsory examination of. entires, the Department'of Agriculture be requested to arrange for the chiet stock inspectors of tho several districts of the Dominion to open an official register, in which, on the payment of a small fee, any stallion could be entered as freo from hereditary disease, after ah examination by a duly-qualified'veterinary surgeon." ■ By. "That .the conference' urges on tho Government the necessity of making better provision for agricultural education." "That tho Government should assist Eome one of the Universities to establish a school of veterinary science, or to provide bursaries so that New Zealand students can attend the school an Melbourne and. Sydiey." ■ By Masterton.—"That the establishment of .agricultural hugh schools as steppingstone to argicultural colleges should, be adopted, in New Zealand." • By Feildrng.—"That in view of the importance of, agricultural teaching in our secondary schools, and also tho fact .of the increstmg . demand for agricultural' education,.' which requires . greater facilities for the teaching of the subject ,the time is now ripe- for the establishment in suitable centres of residential agricultural high schools, where tho teaching of practical and theoretical agritultural can best be carried out." By Taranaki.—"That the Minister of Agriculture be asked to consider the question of the instruction of children in farming and (agricultural pursuits by means of the kineniatograpb, cither through the schools or in a public manner." • By Masterton.—"That the present system of Individual farm experimental plots requires the addition of a central plot system in each district." By Canterbury.—"That the system of grain grading is still unsatisfactory, and that the Government be recommended to inquire into the mntter." Lahd Improvement. By Manawatu —"That action be taken to obtain a reduction in the present high cost of artificial manures- in the Dominion, either by representation through tho Minister of Agriculture, or such other manner as-may he deemed advisable." By Clevedon.—"That the Government be (Urged to. take some steps to increase tho supply • of. phosphatic manures, nnd also to increase the bonus for finding rock phosphates in New Zealand." By Manawatu.—"That where deposits of lima are known to exist on Government land, the Government be asked to take steps to ensurd that the farming community should have every facility for obtaining it at the lowest possible cost." By Canterbury.—"That it is desirable to set up a Government Commission comprised of landowners, Departmental officers, and scientists, to inquire into the area and locality of lands affected with weeds, noxious or otherwise. The amount of damage that was done, and methods by which the weeds might be dealt with, could also be inquired, into." By O.togo and Taranaki.—"That the Board of Agriculture be asked to devisa more satisfactory methods of dealing With noxious weeds. "That the Government should be urged to make it compulsory that an. analysis shall be given witli all stock foods and condiments, as is done in tho case of maimrev" ,

Railway Matters. By Wairarapa —"That the Eailway Department be asked to provide moro insulated trucks for the conveyance, of dairy produce to the port of shipment." By Manawatu.—"That the shortage of trucks for stock be again brought under the notice of the Department." By Canterbury.—"That better facilities be provided by the Eailway Department for tho transit of stock to and from shows." . "That the system of charging extra railway freight on imported timber be discontinued."
