Thursday morning when Mr. Robert Cameron/ son of Mrs. Cameron, of Colo Street, Masterton, was married to Miss Florence Jessie Young, e dest daughter of Mrs. F. W. Kummer the ceremony being performed by tlw Rov. A. T. Thompson, 13.A., B.D. Mr. Ernest Cameron acted as best man. The bride, who was given away by Mr. 'I<* W. Kummer, was attended by Ifissei "Minnie Cameron, May Young, and Freda Kummer, as bridesmaids, and wore a French grey tailor-made costumo with grey and cerise hat trimmed with crepo de chine. Miss Cameron wore molo coloured crepo da chine, "with Cameron tartan revers, and black velvet hat, with Coney seal fur trimming. Miss May Young was attired in orepo de chine,_ with touches of cerise, and hat en Suite. Miss Freda Kutomor woro a whit-o silk dress with floral silk sash. The bride's mother, Mrs. Kummer, was in V violet tailor-made costume, with black furs and floral panne velvet hat. Mr. and Mrs. Cameron left at midday by motor for the north on their honeymoon tour. An Afternoon Tea. Many of the guests who were present at .tho. "at home" which was given by Mrs. H. D. Bell yesterday also attended the tea whicli was given the same afttrnoon by Mrs. Lan Duncan at her residence in Hobson Street. Beautiful spring flowers were evorywhere to be seen in the various rooms, and a string band played delightful music._ Mrs. Duncan wore a gown of sapphire blue, with a deep lace collar. "At Home" at the Pioneer Club. Very pleasant was the afternoon which was, given at the Pioneer. Club on Thursday for Miss' Melville, the City Councillor from Auckland, who las been attending the Municipal Conferenoe which has been held in Wellington this week. . Miss Melville is not only a City Councillor,. but; a practising solicitor in Auckland, and a vice-president of the Civic League, an- association whose objects she explained to the pioneer members later in the afternoon. The, clubrooms were decorated with wattle and narcissi, and the guest of honour was welcomed ( by the vice-presidents, Mrs. Fitohett and Miss Kane, and by the committee members present. Tea was laid in the strangers' rooms, the tables looking very bright and spring-like with jonquils. Miss Melville explained among other things that the Civic League was an association that had been started for/the purpose of drawing women together in Auckland- by getting them interested in various public matters, munioipal and so forth, but the league : was, strictly non-political. Miss Melville wore a gown of blue cloth, a fur ooat, and feathered hat. Mrs. Fitchett was-in grey, with a black hat .with -feathers;'-arid ''Mfes c 'Kano wore brown and-black!feathered s hat. Mrs. Poter Harrison (Masterton), is the guest of Mrs. Bucholtz. Mrs. and Miss Higgie (Wangariui) are the guests of Miss Cameron, Kaiwarra. , ; Miss K. Clark (Oriental Bay) has returned from a visit to Sydney. Mrs. Garcia Webster left for Sydney yesterday. ' On Thursday evening there was a large gathering at the Presbyterian Church Schoolroom, Khandallah, when the ladies of the Literary and Debating Society gave a social evening. The hall was prettily decorated with palms and ferns, and the-floor was covered with eastern matting. Altogether quite an Oriental appearance was presented. Ah excellent musical programme was rendered. . The Wain ta ljuartet, consisting of Messrs. Luke, Dawson, Cameron, and Mackay, gave several items, and Miss Janie Petri© recited. A most enjoyable number was given by Mr. and Mrs. Jenkins, assisted -by their son. There_ were two competitions—one. of local interest and another in' connection with the plays of Shakespeare. Miss Richardson and Miss M'Grcgor were the winners, Messrs. G. H. Richardson and H. Luke' carrying off the booby prizes Thanks were due to the Ladies' Committee, which consisted of: Mesdames Luke, Aplin,' Daniel, Meadowcroft,. Misses Richardson, Finn (2), Reith, and Sutherland (2). A "gift" tea is, to be'held on the second Wednesday in August in aid of the Presbyterian Orphanage. The-only condition imposed is that each visitor will bring a gift, and as the object is a worthy one, a large number of visitors should be in attendance. At Hastings on Wednesday Mr. J. W. Fitzgerald, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fitzgerald, of Makotuku, was, says our Napier correspondent, married to Miss Norah O'Conner, daughter of the late Mrs. J. O'Conner, of Ireland. A small danco was given at Government House last evening by Their Excellencies the Governor and the Countess of Liverpool. Sir. and Mrs. S. Fisher (Feilding) are visiting Wellington, and are the guests of Mrs. Richards. Arrangements are now well in hand for the Garrison Non-Commissioned Officers' Club's fourth annual ball, which is to fee held in the Sydney Street Schoolroom on' Friday evening, August 14 next-. She had taken three special courses—history, philosophy, and logic. She was an easy first in the School of Journalism, both men's and . women's, and has again put up an.unbeaten record.in the college where she is doing hor first two years' work.
