BUTT BOWLING CLUB CONCERT

Although last night was bitterly cold, there was a record attendance at the King George Theatro, Lower Hutt, for the fourth annual concert of the Hutt Bowling and-Tennis Club, a function that is eagerly looked for by tho musiclovuig folic in tho valley each year. The stage| was artistically decorated in maroon and white, and represented a drawing-room. An energetic committee,, of which Mi;. J. Davidson was secretary, and 'Mr. E. D. Woodward, as-sistant-secretary, attended to the hall arrangements, and Messrs. Jones, Hol-lard,-Treyothick, and Cudby formed the refreshment committee. The" programme was under the direction of Mr. E. J. Hill,'of Wellington, and was undoubtedly: an excellent one. A quartet, a song-cycle entitled "Fairy Dreams," as rendered by Miss Helen Gard'ner (soprano), Mrs. Paton (contralto), Mr. E. J. Hill (tenor), and Mr! Hamilton Hodges (baritone), was well received, the blending of the voices being delightful. A feature of Mr. E. J. Hill's song, "Moon 'Fairies," was a harp accompaniment by Signor Vitetta, and the Fairies," by Miss TMen Gard'ner, was delivered artistically. The latter performer and Mrs. Paton 'Gang "The Enchanted Hour," a tuneful duet, very sweetly; and Mrs. Paten's.song, "Fairy Loss," won much applause. Mr. Hnmiltcm Horlces was in good'voioo in "Tho Elfin King," and the quartet "Daybreak," by the samo i performers as previously, concluded a perfect rendering of this somewhat difficult snne-cyclo. A humorous du"t, by Mr. Alex. Newton and Mr. D. A. Kenny. caus°d great merriment. Mr. E. B. Gilchrist gave a violin solo; Miss Nsfia Cnldow snug "Until" and "Tho Littlo Damosol"; Dr. Norman Hales and Miss Zita Chapman won the heartn ofthcaiiflirnw in the rn«Hmo song and dance "Waiting." After tho interval, most of the foregoing artists reappea rod in other items, and a most enjovablo entertainment concluded with fh» sintring of the Nitionnl Anthem, Miss Nina. Calflow taking the solo, and the audience (bv invitation) joining in the refrain. Mr. D. A. Kenny presided at the piano. : i r
