' (WTOTICE is hereby given that the WelLv hngton City Council proposes to apply to His Excellency the Governor for an Order varying the following Ordcrs-ih-Council, namely— .■. . . - 1 1. Tho City of Wellington Electric Tramway Order, No 9 8. The City of Wellington Electric' Tramway Order, No. 10, in respect of brakes. ' Tho proposed Order-in-Conncil is intended to be intituled "The City of Wellington Electric Tramway Order. No. 11." . The operative provisions of the proposed Ordor-in-Council are as follow,:— 3. Order No. 1 and Order No. 2 and the Mifamar Order No. 1 are hereby var-' icd in the manner following, that" is to say :—Notwithstanding anything contained in such Orders relating to brakes and brake equipment to be carried on cars running on tho tramways * in the City the following provisions only shall apply to all tramways constructed under any of tho above-mentioned Orders in which there is no gradient steeps than 1 in 12: (1) All cars used shall be equipped with an effective and in addition with a power brake of a tyno to be approved by the Engineer in Chief, both of which shall be constantly in use in the ordinary traffic servico of the tramway. One of these brakes shall'be and shall 'bo proved to be capable of making both on an ordinary rail and on a -greasy rail such emergency stops as the Engineer-in-Chief may reasonably' • prescribe having regard to tho standard English, practice. . ■ ' . (2) Tbo- Inspecting Engineer shall bo (ho sole judge as to the condition of tho rail when tests of the brake or brakes aro made. (3) The said brfikes shall be kept and maintained in such n condition that they will be capable at all times of complying with the prescribed tests. (4) The said Orders No. 1, Order No. 2 and the Miramar Order No. 1, so far as the last order applies to the City'of Wellington, shall be read and construed' as if tho variation hereby mado had origiuaily appeared therein.
