POULTRY INDUSTRY
« ." . (By Chantecler.)
Panama Exposition. It,is understood that the. comivittee jppomtod to arrango'a poultry exhiirit rrom New Zealand has decided to s'ond an exhibit of white leghorns and Indian' Runner ducks. It is claimed that these two varieties will worthily represent New Zealand's stock, and give a better idea of what is being bred iti the Dominion than by sending specimens from other breeds that don't represent the American standard. The committee are acting wisel}', as they would not stand much chance of tho prize money if the other varieties were sont., The need for a large exhibit is perhaps not so essential now that the egg-laying test is to bo held, and at •which, no doubt,. several breeders Will compete. .The test will be the biggest Hung of its kind yet held, as it will be international, .and. the'honour of winning will bring more distinction. It is to be regretted that it is eo expensive to enter the birds.' The entry fee is £5 per pen, to which is added the freight. However, it is worth the outlay, and it is to be hoped that breeders will como forward and partake in the test. The amount of business that would follow such a win would result in fr small fortune for tho winner.
