WITH FLYING COLOURS
NEW ZEALAND OFFICERS' SUCCESS IN EXAMINATIONS. Two Now Zealand Territorial officers, Lieutenant E. H. Taylor, of tho Third Auckland Mounted Rifles Regiment, and Lieutenant J. F.' G. Hislop, of tho Eighth Southland Mounted ltiflcs Regiment, have oarned distinction for themselves and honour to their Dominion by passing- -with flying colours the Imperial examination presoribod for officers of tho overseas Dominions for direct commissions in tho British Regular Army. Lieutenant Taylor headed tho list ot some 200 candidates from all 'ovor the Empire, by gaining 3307 marks out of a possible 4500, his detailed marks ■ being: Military history and strategy. S2O out of 1000; tactics, 1135 out of 1500; military la>v, 17G out of 250; military administration and organisation, 188 out of 250; field engineering, 643 out of 1000; map reading, and sketching, 345 out of SUO. Lieutenant Hislop, who gained sccond place with 2971 ont of 4500, and his detailed marks in the before-mentioned subjeote were, respectively, G7O, 1GG0 ; 190, 153, 028, and 270. : Lieutenant Taylor has elected to join the old 05th Regiment (of Maori. AVar days), officially the York and Lancaster Regiment, at present stationed at Jnbbalpore, India. • Lieutenant Hislop's future regiment is not yet settled; he has asked for the First Battalion of the Fifth Lancashire Regiment (stationed at Quctta, North-West India).
