MIRAMAR AFFAIRS

TRAMWAYS AND LIGHTING. : The fortnightly meeting of the Miraniar Borough Council was held last night. There were present: The Mayor (Mr. F. ■ Townsend), and Councillors Stone, Smith, Underwood, Hawthorne, and Dr. Edith Huntly. It was reported that the Miramar Municipal Electors' Association's > request for more through fare cars had been considered bj' the Tramways Committee, and it had been decided that the City Tramways, Department should be asked to make the 5.1 p;m. and 5.26 p.m. cars, and the 10.46 p.m. (on Saturday) from Government Station to Miramar through-fare cars. A meeting of the council will be held on-Tues-day next to consider the tramway question. The Mayor'reported that the running of a small car on the borough lines was under consideration, and that the consulting engineer was looking into the matter. The Electric Lighting Committee reported that at its last meeting Mr. F. Black (consulting engineer) attended, and outlined the rhemo for the electric lighting of thn district, and submitted a plan showing the reticulation and provision made for street lighting. It was decided to_ adopt Mr. Black's proposal, and on his recommendation it was resolved to send notices to consumers of electric current, informing them of the change in voltage, and that an inventory of electric' appliances in the district would ho prepared.—The report was adopted. Intimation was received from the Worser Bay Swimming and Life-Saving Club that as a result of the council's grnnt of £ for A towards the cost of n life-saving reel, it intended to give effect to the purchase.
