. ——« : . 'ARBOR DAY GAMES. . Three interesting hockey games were played at Karori Park yesterday afternoon. Senior and junior Saturday representatives engaged in q. contest witt representative similar grades from the Wednesday Association. Of particular interest, however, was tlie ladies' game between a team-from Horowhenua and an eleven of the local lady representatives. In this'' game the ■ Wellington ladies had an easy victory, and in all respects showed themselves superior to the visitors. Details of the play in tho various encounters are as follow:— ■ THE LADIES' GAME. Right throughout the game between' the Horowhenua and Wellington ladies' team the latter had the!upper hand t and eventually won by 6 goals to nil. A word must he said, however, about the indomitable pluck and perseverenca of the Horowhenuas; although it was very, evident to them that they were playing a losing game, they battled strenuously all the time, and when the final whistle sounded tliey were still "dying hard." Miss Dobbyn was the first to score for Wellington, and she shortly followed this up b.v securing another goal. Later Miss Carrick, who was also playing a good game," scored. The first spell ended with the score at 3 "to 0. . The local ladies were again to the fore oil recommencing after, the interval, and it was not long before Miss Carrick scored from an attack fronting the goalmouth. Not a whit disheartened, Horowhenua made desperate efforts to retaliate with a score, and once caused the; ball to hover perilously near the Wei-' lington goalmouth. It wiis shortly after that Miss M'Donnell ;made':h splendid dash up the right-wing, and passed nicely to one of the forwards,' who, however, failed /to. put the 'finishing touch to the" effort: Miss : M'Donncll made no mistake with'her nest chance, and shot straight and unerringly, herself from the> wing. The final goal of the game was scored by Miss Pickuring. Mr. J. C. Gusack was the rc-feree. . FIXTURES FOR SATURDAY. The following are the fixtures and referees for Saturday:— Senior—Wellington v. The'senior Saturday and Wednesday representatives engaged in a fast and interesting encounter, in which the former eleven came off victorious by four goals to oiie. The Saturdav representatives in no sense had things all their own way, and on the play their opponents should really have won. Bad luck haunted them throughout tho game, more especially so in the second spell. Shortly after commencing' two goals were scored, within a few moments of each other, for the Saturday team, by Griffiths and Loader respectively. Following;.this the mid-week players attacked with persistency, but tho. score remained the samo till half-time, Then in the second spell Shceran at 'length scored for tlicm 'midst great excitement. This was their last and only score, and the- game closed with the Saturday players four, up against Wednesday's one. Loader and Strack scored for the winners in the second spell. Mr. J. C. Cusack was the referee. JUNIOR GAME. The contest between tho junior representatives of Wednesday and Saturdaj players produced an even contest, tli< game ending in a draw—four all. A.
