HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL

MONTHLY MEETING. . The monthly meeting of the Hutt County Council was held on Tuesday. There wore present: Councillors M. W. Welch (chairman), J. Wakeham, W. Galloway, T. Edwards, J. Whiteman, and' W. J. Howell. It was resolved, on the motion of Councillor Wakeham:—"(l) That the general account contribute £25 and the Wainui-o-mata Itiduig account £00 to-, wards the cost of metalling tlie Orongorongo Road. (2) That the portion of the road known as Howard's Point to Lowiy Bay bo surveyed for the purpose of spending the Government grant of £250." ' A deputation of residents from the Horowhoiuia Riding waited upon tho council and requested it to consider tlie question of securing land necessary for the extension of the rood fromPlinimerton to Paekakariki. The council promised to go thoroughly into tho matter' immediately. Regarding the request of the council . for a lamp to be provided at Belmont station, a rpply was received from tho Railway Department stating that it was unable to accede to the request. Tn reply to the council's request for extended hours for polling, the Intorual Affairs Department wrote to the effect that the hours would be extended as requested to 7 o'clock. *
