SHOPLIFTING IN AUCKLAND
WHAT A BABY'S PRAM. CONTAINED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Auckland, July 15. Another case of shop-lifting in Karangahape Road, with circumstances which point to a shrewd system, was detected yesterday afternoon. Shortly; boforo 2 o'clock a wide-awake tradesman observed a' woman,, who',was accompanied by a child of thirteen years, and was wheeling a baby in a perambulator stop at his.shop window and handle the goods put outside for display. Ho kept a wary eye on her and saw her furtively slip a boot into the pram., upon which he went out; and at the same time: summoned a constable. The. constable took the party to tho Newton Police Station, where it was discovered that the baby covered, if 'not. a-multitude, : at least a number of thefts.. In addition to the' infant and tho boot, ' the pram, held half u dozen pillow-slips, a pair of boots, and a pinafore, all obviously new. When the woman appeared before the Justices' of the Pence she was convicted: and fined £3 with costs.' '
