In the Davis Cup preliminary tio France v. tho British Isles, in the doubles Deougis and Gormot (France) heat Roper Barrett and Mavrogordato (England), 6—3, 5—7, 7-5, 6—l. PLAY IN THE SINGLES. London, July 14. In the Davis Cup preliminary tie, Franco v. the British Isles, playing in the singles, Mavrogordato (England) beat Deougis (France), 6—l, 7—3, 7—5. Parke beat Gemot, 7—5, 6—l, 6—3. The British team has now ■ beaten both Belgium and Franco in the preliminary ties, and will now meet the winner of tne Australasian-Camidian-Germaa ties, to decide who shall have the right to, challenge the American holder,? of the cup. ENGLISH TEAM CRITICISED. London, July 14. The "Westminster Gazette" says tho selection of the English Davis Cup team doos not give hope of a good fhowing against the Australasians. Apparently England does not possess good doubles players, and those selected aro not considered to be England's best. FIXTURES IN AMERICA.(Rec. July 15, 0.15 a.m.) New York, July 14. Tho German Davis Cup team meets the winners of tho Canadian-Australian ties at the Alleghany Country Club's grounds, Pittsburg, on July .30-31 and August 1; Australia and Canada meet at Onwentsia Club grounds, near Chicago, on July 23. The British players meet the winners of the ties_ between Germany, Canada, and Australia, at tho Longwood Cricket Club.grounds on August 6; the Americans defending the oup at Testside Tennis Club grounds, Long Island, on August 13.
