FRENCH CLUB
On Friday the . weekly meeting of . the French Club was held in the hall of the. Theosophical Society ■in Ballance Street, -under the presidency of Mr. -H. F. Lattey. The subject taken was "An.Evening with Florian." After a piano solo, "Sons les Feuiltees," played by Miss E. W. White, a sketch of tho life of Florian -wis read by Madame Dechanet-M'lntosh. In it sho showed the young Florian, a favourite of Vol'taire, afterwards 3 page in tho house of a great nobleman, then a, man of letters, fabulist and dramatist. Next followed four of Florian's fables, recited by Miss C. Smythson, Miss Flanigan, Miss "Wilcoeks, and Miss Hind. After these ca.me a comedy by Florian, "La Bonne Mere," performed under tho superintendence of Madame DechanetM'lntosh, with suitable costumes, though without the adjuncts of scenery. The cast consisted of Missas Smythson ■and Mead and Messrs. Spencer, Adamson, and Lattey. Tho performers were accorded a very hearty vote of thanks, and tho evening's proceedings ended with tho singing of the "Marseillaise."
