PAHIATUA NOTES.
A st'atemonl submitted in, connection with tho recent Queen of the Carnival, competition showed that the gross receipts totalled £811, and the expenditure £148, leaving a credit balance of £663. Tho crowning ceremony will take place next week. The Pahiatua Borough Council, has decided to effect various improvements to the local recreation ground. On July , 22 a large number of shelter trees will bd\planted on the eastern bank. A public meeting will be held on Monday evening, when the question of erecting a new Post Offico.on ono of the town squares will be discussed. One of the early settlers of this district, Mrs. Andrew Knox, died at Dannevirke last week. The deceased lady, • who was the mother of Mr. A. Knox, ol Kaitawa, had reached tho age of 76 years. At the quarterly meeting of the recently reconstituted Pahiatua Rechabite Lodge, Bro. A. E;»st was elected C.R. Bro. S. Grinlinton was elected secretary and Bro. F. Punch treasurer. Messrs. G. Gibson and W. Oldfield, residents of tho Konini district for a number of years, who are leaving for other parts, wore entertained at a smoke concert, and were presented with tokens of esteem from the settlers. !
