NOTES AND COMMENTS. i. . IBt GlencoeJ] .. .... : _ The Victorian Racing Club's Grand National Meeting will be brought to a close at Fleminglon this afternoon, when the principal event, .to be decided is the Grand National Steeplechase. It is interesting to notet that the first race at Flemington starts at 1.15 p.m., and the concluding event at 4.40 p.m. Since the Napier Park Meeting, ' J. Gravostoek's horses. have been, undergoing their preparation at Hastings. They were kept-there on account of the fact that- the. tracks at Clarevilla are not suitable for training at the present time. Gravestock is duo at Trentham this evening with Amber and White, Listen, Uncle Jim, andßranslield. The last-named is a splendid .jumper, and that Jie _ha.s pace'was fully demonstrated as Napier, Park. He should more than pay his way-during the jumping season.. Blaclcall (All Black—La Notte) is said to havo proved too difficult,'for the stable lads to manage iri Sydney. Hence his addition to the list-of geldings and his return to the. Dominion. : . , The Auckland-owned Bluestone, who was victorious in each of his last tworaces, is working iii his usual dashing, style at Trentham, and certainly looks better than when last : seen in' public. Try Fluke and Admiral .Soult look none, the : .worse for all .the .racing they did in Auckland, and' both are likely to strip exceptionally well at Trentham on Wednesday. , : ; During his stay'in Melbourne, Trainer G. Price visited the .Shipley.,\Stud at Wirrnainbool, and there ..saw, ■ Mr. S.' Green's valuable imported horses White Star ! and ' Comedy' King;-. Price' was very favourably, impressed 'with Comedy King, l who has developed "into &■ beautiful ■ stamp of thoroughbred ' staJlioii'.White' Star.is generally understood to', have cost his owner 10)000 guineas, and that .is probably as big ai price as'has' been.given for any horse yet imported to Australia. He was selected to provide an . outoross to. St. Simon ; blood. Among the mares, 'which Price saw at Shipley, were several bred in New Zea-. land.; They' included Problem (dam of Solution},' Indian Queen (dam.' .of Aborigine), and those brilliant performers Artillerie and Cross Battery. " ' V The: Two Thousand Guineas winner, Kennymore, who performed so disappointingly in the Derby at Epsom 111 May, will have an opportunity to make amends, for 1 his defeat on .Friday' nest, when the Eclipse Stakes, of 10,000 sovs., comes up for decision. , .Returned visitors from Australia import that W. Davies has got both" Soiiitc and War, Queen in work 'again.'" _ Mr. R., H.: Skipwith' will make his first' appearance \in the South' Island as a. starter at the' 1 Ambcrley meeting. " ■ The Merriwee mare Truganini, though nearly .nine years of age, 'has not Inst all: form,-for she quite recently added, to.;her winning account *in.' Australia. ' F. M'Cabe, who Went from ; Ken" Zealand to Melbourne-for-the special purpose of riding Obi in the ."rand'-Na-tional Hurulcs 'last Saturday, is. expected io reach Auckland, on' the return journey, to-morrow;. ' He . will come" straight oil to Trentham, to ride Peary Wellington Steeplechase on Wednesday next. . . ■ y Tho Auckland- hurdler Merriihax' may be started at the Warwick Fain meet- 1 ing -in- Sydney "this afternoon.
