It. was resolved/ on the motion: of; Mrs.' Mortonv(Christchurch), future an amiual fee of £1 should bo: paid' by each branch to .Central Council- towards the cost , of training caclv nurse employed .by; the branches.During; the discussion one. stated that, after 'her daughter' had ieceived a.' year's; "training' at the, Karitane Hospital she' received eight offers of^engagement as nurse within 'a few weeks.; : -"; .' . ■■~■'■'■'-' .: v - : , ; ''•'■■; ':Vt".;v
On the motion of Mrs. Myers (Auckland) it was resolved that the salaries of Pluuket nurses should-be - £l5O-per annum.. It was stated during , the, discussion ■ that, one branch had only paid £]25, and unother,£l4o per -annum.' ,- It was decided, on the motion of' Mrs. (Jarr (Dunedin), that in future,a nurse appointed as assistant 'to, a,- Plunket nurse must s haive had a proper "course of training at the Karitane Hospital. ■• It was , resolved, on the."motion of-a Cliristchurch delegate) that in view of "the fact that the-Tlunket nurses-now ■"receive-a-salary'of £150 per annum,;it ■was.not nccessaay that .their "uniforms, bo paid for "out of the, branch neither ueed an allowance be 'made, foi the'same, " :.'i ;%,■'; V
It was decided ion the motion of'an Auckland member, that' the rulo:.;requiriiig the Plunket mirses to act only, with the consent of the doctor be made more, explicit in'.tlie. following directions:—(a) When called' to a.vcase the Plunket nurse miist ■ inquire if a doctor is. in .attendance,, and' if so she. mjist communicate with him direct to ascertain if he 'is .willing for'.her to altend, and what his special instructions' are; (b) that it is not in the beet :; interests of the society for a Plunket nurse to be concerned in the collection of donations,' subscriptions, etc.j (c); that a. leaflet be issued containing the , aims: and objects of the society, and iiv addition an' intimation that, Tvhile ti'e services of the nurses are free; to, all, those who accept their help and. are in a position to do so should at: least ad J .their small quota towards the supper!, •of the nurses: by.becoming annual sub-. scribers. . . . : ,■.":■•'. .-'■'. ; .
On the-motion of a Warigaiiui delegate it was decided that, nurses, must pay their own training fee at tho Kaii-tnne-Harris Hospital, and if they!hold; the: position for two years the t-fainins-fee will he refunded to. them,at the end of the time. '. ' "■■'•■■-. ';.'.- .; !
On the motion brought forward by, a, Hastings delegat-o it was decided: ./(a) That in.order to impress upon ITie public that the work is quito--undenomina-tional,-' aiitl approved- by all religious bodies, an appeal be made to churches of all denominations in towns -where a Plunket: nurse is established; or' which is visited by a Phmket nurse, to institute on one Sunday .in every yetir a collection in aid of tho funds of the eo-. ciety; (b) that in order, to foster a closer union between . tho differentbranches, tho lion, secretary of each branch shouldi whenever . aiiy matter of special interest.affecting thVsocietj'ij or its.work comes before her committee: communicate it to all secretaries of other branches •by circular letter; the' committee of each branch ■ to decide what matters should l be so communir' cated. , - .
