A meeting of the Hutt Park Oommitteo was.held at. Lower Hutt last evening, there being .present: Mr. H. Baldwin (chairman), and Messrs. M'En-an, Hodgins, Hobbs, and Townsend. A deliutation from the , Hutt>'■ Volley. NoJjioense' League waited on the committee.in respect to-the sale of liquor on the park, in the event of a lease being granted to the Hutt Valley Trotting Club. The deputation asked in the interests of true spp'rfcjthat the committee would firmly adhero to the clause prohibiting the sale of intoxicants lon the grounds. ' •' : .-'■' ' ... ■'. .
Messrs. H. Palmer and R. Short,' of the Hutt Valloy Trotting Club, attend-, ed the meeting, to answeV any questions, in respect .to the conditions of a lease submitted by their, club. Mr. Palmer.urgedl the committee to decide Inp matter speedily, as in-the evenf'of Mr. Hunter's Bill going through Parliament they would need to make an early applicatibn for permits, and . unless the' matter was hastened it might as well be The one stumbling-block: appeared to be clause 9, and he asked them to allow the Licensing Committee to settle it. . . •:■•' ... .

Mr. Short:: I take it, sir, that the club is willing to modify both clauses; the committee's;solicitor will put thein in order.: ... •'• . . ,
lii discussing the matter, Mr. Baldwin stated that the first question to settle was whether liquor should be sold on the park or not. Mr. T. Tpwnsend then moved, "That clause 9 be inserted in any lease of the park to the Trotting Club.*' ,;■ ■■ -...'. ' , ■

Air amendment by Mr. Hodgins that the matter be referred to the Licensing Committee was lest, and. the motion prohibiting the '.sale''of liquor was carried, the voting being: For the motion—' Messrs. Townsencl and M'Ewan. Against —Messrs. Hodgins and Hobbs. ' The chairmaiv the.n stated that ho would vote for the motion, on the ground that existing conditions should continue. , '
