MUNICIPAL TRAWLING
PROFESSOR PRINCE URGES CAUTION.
Professor Prince, tho Canadian fisheries oxpert, and one of the foremost authorities in his particular line, was informed that the question had been raised in the City Council as to whether it was expedient for the council to enter into the : trawling industry in order. to supply the Municipal Fish Market, and was asked for a lead in the matter. Professor Prince said that it was a moot question as to whether trawling anywhere was a good thing, owing to the thorough manner in , which it denuded the fishing grounds.. At Homo the authori.tios had been active of late years preventing trawling within certain limits of the coast, and as the. result the trawlers had had to seek now and nioro remote seas for. thoir industry. Professor Prince evaded giving any advice directly bearing on the-point-at issue, but suggested that the local authority should go very carefully into' the hie-. to'ry of trawling and the fishing industry generally beforo it,ventured to become an active, participator ,iu tlie obtaining of sujjalies.
