RAILWAY CASUALS
REQUEST TO RE MADE PERMANENT.
Two petitions from casual employees in the New Zealand Government railways wero presented to the House of Representatives yesterday by Dr. A. K. Newman and M-\ J. S. Dickson. Petitioners set forth that thev "aro casual employees of the New Zealand Government Railways, and have all boon from ten to twenty-six years in the Service, and havo fulfilled all the (!i..»-s and obligations in the same way ns employees placed on the permanent staff, but notwithstanding aro still classed as casuals, and do not enjoy the same benefits which are given to permanent men. Therefore your petitioners request that you will confer those benefits on casuals with over ten years' service which are given under the present rules and regulations to nermanent e'mnlovees, and that Rules f)G. P 7. 03, and 111 shall apply to them also, with the exception of superannuation, which we do not want to belong to or apply to your petitioners."
