KAURI'S LEAKS INCREASE
THE VESSEL BEACHED. (Uy Telesrauh.--Frets Association.) Westport, July 1. Since tho steamer Kauri was placed alongsido tho wharf the leaks havo increased considerably, and the vessel lists from 6ido to side. In addition to her own pumps, tho Tcrawhiti's pumps wero got to work to-day, and kept tho water down materially. A diver is to go down to examine tho damago below tho watcrlino.
Wostport, July 5. Tho Kauri was this morning beached on "Tho Hard" above the wharves for repairs. It was found that she was taking in a considerable quantity of water, and that it would bo unsato to attempt to take her to Port Chalmers for docking until temporary repairs woro elfccted. Tlio Magisterial inquiry is to open at ten a.m. to-morrow.
