FOR BETTER TOWNS
MISSION OF BIUTISII ENVOYS. Messrs. .W. ft. Davidge find Charles C. Itcadc, who are to give addresses on town planning, hopo to help New Zealandcrs to improve their town and cities. Before these envoys of tho British Garden Cities and Town Planning Association left Loudon they were encouraged by tho good wishes of many well-known people, includinK Earl Hrasscy, Lord Winston, Lieutenant-General fir Kilward Hutton, Sir William Lever. Mr. Ebenczer Howard and Mr. George Cndbtiry. Mr. Howard, the veteran founder of Garden City Letchworth, was tho main inspiration of the town planning movement in Britain. A few months ago lie wrote thus to the departing delegates:—"ln that vast Continent, with iU sister islands, there must bo enormous opportunities for carrying out the best principles of city planning and building. It is equally certain that those principles will' not be adopted unless they are made widely known." The visitors, whose well-illustrated lectures will be free, will show the achievements and also the mistakes of other countries, and the facts with which they are abundantly furnished should be a great aid to the town planning cause here. Mt. Pavidre and Mr Tiende will deliver threo lfc'ur-i in Wellington, beginning on Wednesday, .Tuly 15. Tlie subject of the nnenitiT Icctnr.i. to be given in the Town Hall, will bo "Town Planning for New Zealand."
