Mr. Houghton, manager, of the EngJish footballers, declares that there will be no test match on Saturday, which he desires to postpone till after the New Zealand tour. v BIG MATCH AT NEWTOWN PARK. In'view of the fact that the space for spectators at the Basin Reserve is limited to about 8000 or 9000 people tho Wellington Football League has come to an arrangement with the Reserves Committee of the City Council to play' tho Wellington-England League football match at Newtown Park on' Saturday, July 11. The Wellington South ground is considered to bo ideal from a spectators' point of view, owing to tbo raised terraces' on three, sides of the ground, which onablos ovcryono to Cain an uninterrupted view of the game. Permission to charge for entrance has hcen granted. PETONE LEAGUE. A special general meeting of tho Potono Rusby League was held last evening. Thero was a large attendance, and Mr. W. Bealo presided. Mr. L. A. Reesby was appointed junior coach, vice Mr. Houeo (resigned). It was decided to forward a letter to the Wellington Rugby League Executive emphatically protesting rfgainst tho "turning down" of the suggested junior curtain-raiser prior to the English match. It was agreed to ask the Mnscotto Picture Company to tender a benefit performance on behalf of a member of the executive, v.-ho had been in tho hospital through sickness for a considerable time,"and n-sub-committee consisting of Messrs.
