■ In the final of tho All-comers' Singles, Brookes beat Froitzheim, 6—2, 6—l, 5—7, 4—6, α-ii, and'has thus qualified to meet Wilding (N.Z.), the holder of the Championship. Tho match was played in tropical heat. Brookes's service was particularly strong in tho first two sets. The third set went with tho service, until Brookes led, 5 —4. Froitzheim equalised, won on_Brookes's service, and went out with a "love" gamo.. Brookes was never in the lead in the fourth set. The last sot was thrilling. Froitzheim broke through the Australian's service ill the •'fifth game, and led 3 —2. Brooko squared, and led 5—4. Ho won tho first point on the German's service ivith a wonderful pass, but lost two consecutive services. When the game stood 6—6, was leading 40—30 when Brookos. double-faulted, and, but ior _ tho linesman's wrong decision, Froitzheim should havo led 7 —6. Prookes in tho last game was twice within a point of set. The winning .Mint was scored by tho most wonderiul shot of the match—a backhand one.
The pick-up victory was frantically cheered.
