MUNICIPAL ORCHESTRA SCHEME. Tho demand made nnon the guarantors to, make; good the loss (£200) made bv the. old Municipal Otehestra has for the present at any rate killed the project Mr. Bernard F, Page had at heart r>f establishing such an" orchestra in Wellington. He had been quietly at work for.-some time at tjie groundwork of a scheme which he thought-, would yield some result, but the call on the guarantors of Mr. Mauglujn Barnett's orchestra has ' given ilie new sellouts its quietus for a time at least.
Tho irayoir has received; a letter from Dr. Kington FyfTe (chairman of tho committee which is interesting itself in reestablishing a municipal- orchestra In Wellington), stating that a decision to VTCpp it had been arrived at as the resillf.'*of the call made on tho guarantors.' Those people who were being called on to pav would fco the very ones tho committee would rely on for support, for the resuscitated body, and naturallv they could not very well be appealed to htf this juncture. The committee. which'consisted of Dr. Fyffe. Councillors Buddie and Godher, and Messrs. W. H. lSetlnine, G. Harland. E. Bell, B. F. Pace, and ,T. M'Bean (secretary), and Collins (treasurer), has been disbanded.
