(From Our. Own Correspondent.) Tho Mayor of Pctone (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan) Ims been offered, and lias accepted, a seat on the Jiutt Licensing Committee, • rendered vacant by tho death, of Jlr. Orton Stsvens. Several places have been suggested as a sito.for a high school for Butt and 'Pctonc, the Hutt Talk being frequently mentioned. A keen education-! isfc suggests :i sito at Percy's Gardens as most suitable, tin account of its sheltered position, and its beauty. A. position on-Percy's site would bo in close proximity to both Hutt and Pctono railway stations, and would liavo tho advantage of being on the msin arterial roadway. Tho same gentleman suggests that a high school on this section might serve as a memorial' to the early settlers who landed on Pctono beach, as ifc would directly overlook the spot wliere tho pioneers first toncJicd the soil of New Zealand.
