BOWLING
WELLINGTON CENTRE ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Wellington Bowling Centre of Now Zealaud was held lost night. Mr. J. A. Plimmer presided, and there was an attend--anco of about thirty delegates, representing all the affiliated clubs, with the oxception of Upper Hutt. In moving the adoption of the report And balance-sheet (already published) .the chairniai) said that the business of the Centre had been satisfactorily carried on, and there had not been any dissatisfaction. They had entertained .the Australian players, and lie thought that , the visitors had enjoyed their visit to Wellington. During tho year ho
had had the pleasure of presenting the Pennant to Petono. The financial position of tho'Centro had improved, and they, had ac credit balance of £57, as against. £8 for'the previous year.
The election of officers . resulted as unci';-: —President, Mr. E. J. Hill; vicepresident, Mr. H. J. Palmer; lion, treasurer, "Mr: J. J. Roberts (re-elect-od); hon;. auditor,-Mr. J. W.. Kinniburgh (re-elected); executive, Messrs. T. \V. Pilcher (Eastbourne Club), F. Laurenco (Hataitai), G. Allport (Lower Hutt), S. Hill (Upper Hutt), Rev. F. H. Petrie (Johnsonville), J. A. Plimmer (Khandallah), O. A. Marquis (Kelbuin), F. llennett (Karori), W. H. Morrah (Lyall Bay), S. H. Underwood (Newtown), T. L. Churchward (Otaki), H. Wylie (Petone), W. H. Green (Seatoun), R. AV. Shailcrass (To Hiwi), V. Dimock (Thorndon), G. Sneddon (Victoria), E. Moult (Wellington). Before the election ol ; the delegates Mr. Keitli asked what was to bccome of the other -members of the Centre jl seven members were to be taken as tho executive to conduct the business. He felt it- would be better if all the dele-' gates Were left to attend to the work, and not leave all the work to the executive..
Mr. Hill, who took the chair on beelected president, said that the. rules made it necessary for them to elect, seven members as the executive.
Mr. Roberts read tho Constitution of the Dominion Bowling Association, which applied to the centres. This provided that the iiumber of members to conduct the business was to be decided by the Centre. Ho explained that last year they decided on seven members to constitute the executive.
In reply to a delegate Mr. Roberts explained' that the meeting could decide to elect as many delegates as they saw fit.
Mr. J. W. Kinniburjih moved that the executive should consist of seventeen members, thus allowing each club one .member on the executive.
. Mr. J. S. Keith (acting on instruction.')) moved as an amendment thatthe executive should consist of delegates from all clubs, according to membership. - Mr. V. Dimock moved a further amendment, that tho executive should consist of nine members, an increase on last year of two members. He felt they would have difficulty in getting a'quorum if they had a large and cumIcrsomc executive.
Mr. Roberts expressed himself in favour of a small executive. To elect seventeen, he said, would be to make a cumbersome committee, and in addition would cast a reflection on last year's executive. . • \
Mr. Kinniburgh did not agree with this. They simply wanted.,to provide an executive which would enable every dub to have full information on the work of the centra. He suggested that nine members should form -a quorum. Sub-committees could be appointed to deal with different work. He thought the scheme would be quite workable.
Each proposal was voted on, and Mr. Kinniburgh's. motion was carried by a largo majority, aiid seventeen delegates were then elected, as above noted. It was decided that club levies should remain as fixed last year. "Mr. S. H. Underwood's proposals re pennant play, and the Wednesday pennant, as considered at the. annudl meetings of the clubs, were put before the meeting: The proposals had as their objejt the doiiig away'with any semblance ef a "close corporation," in regard to the'competition. The gradiag of'the clubs into two divisions was one of the main points, and for annual grading'the two lowest clubs in the A Division were to go into the B Division, while the two leading clubs in that division .moved up into A Division,-;' .Afty'T. L. Churchward seconded tho motion to adopt.the proposals, but suggested a slight amendment on the number of rinks, to represent each club. Mr. Underwood agreed to a reduction of two rinks all round (one home, one away).
The amended resolution with regard to the Saturday pennant was carried. It was decided to provide a Wednesday pennant, clubs entering to play one riuk at home and one away; mombers to declare whether to play for the Wednesday or Saturday pennants. • Mr. Roberts withdrew a recommendation with reference to the Edwin Feathers. . ' '
Mr. Keith moved as a recommendation to tho executive of the centre that they should draw up by-laws for internal management.
Mr. J; Laughton moved that it be a recommendation from the centre to all affiliated clubs to finish all club competitions by March 5, otherwise they be not allowed to cuter for the centre's champion of champions' games. " Mr. Undinvood moved that the centre rccommend the 'council of the Dominion Association to rescind its decision as to Scott's 'bowls' test for all clubs,, and that an expression of opinion from all cities on the subject of bowl testing be obtained before December 31.
. Mr. : Laurenson recommended that it should be an instruction to the Dominion Association that Excellito bowls be allowed at all competitions.
