GENERAL FARMING NEWS.

' The planting of fruit trees in the Nelson district is proceeding steadily, says an exchange. The s.s. Regulus is at present at Napier loading a hundred tons of fruit trees from Hawke's Bay nurseries for Nelson. The secretary of the Hawke's Bay A. and I'. Society has received a lcttor from tlie Now Zealand Ilomney Marsh Sheep Breeders' Association, stating that it had been decided to award the Komiiey championship for champion ram and ewe to tho next Hawke's Bay show. A parcel of about 701b. of new potatoes, grown on the Taieri Peninsula, made its appearance' on the Duncdin market during last week. The first, lot, of about dOlb., realised Sd. per lb. The potatoes were of fine quality for this very early period of the year. There is a prospect of tho date of tho ram fair, held alternately at Palmcrston and Feilding, clashing this year with tho date, of the annual lam at Hastings. The Hawke's Bay btoek Agents' Association, owing to the New Zealand Wool Buyers' Association fixing the wool sale at Napier for January 29, have decided to hold their ram lair on February 4 and 5. Those are the dates selected for the fair at Fcildiug, two days after , tho Folding Show. As both districts arc closely interested in tho sheep industry, it is suggested that all effort be made to prevent ft clashing or dates. Tlie Feilding A. and P. Association, and tho jYlanawatu Auctioneers Association arc dealing with the matter. Mr. E. 11. Fisher, secretary of the A. and P. Association, has both telegraphed and written to tho Hawko's Bay Association, pointing out. that tho Manawatii fair's dates havo been a,fixture for some years, and that possibly that fact has been overlooked.—Palmcrston "Standard."
