SOME WOMEN'S SALARIES

Tho wonderful progress which women wave made of late years in the various professions, and tho successful manner m which they have completed and held their own with the opposite sex, is strikingly illustrated by the way in which 'some of the Government departments in England appoint them to responsible and highly-paid posts. A superintendent-inspector at a salary of £400. to £400, i for instance, is employed by the Local Government Board, and six inspectors at £250 to £350, while the Homo Qffico employs one Woman. Inspector of Prisons at a salary of fronT ; e3oo to £400. In regard to the latter appointments, however, women have, legitimate cause for complaint, for it is pointed out that although they do equal work, men inspectors got £600 to £700 a year. A salary of £450 is also paid to the Senior Investigator for Women's Industrios in connection with tho Board of Trade, while the Principal Woman Officer at the Central Office of the Labour Exchange- gets a salary of £41)0 to £450. Among other highly-paid appointments for women aro those of Chief Woman Inspector of Schools, who reqeivps a salary of £650; a sonior medical officer with a salary of £600 to £800, and pight inspectors at £400 to £5Oo! The Insurance Act has created several valuable apnointments for women, tho highest paid beinc; womon commissioners, who Rft the same salaries as men—viz., £1000 per annum. Though tho Public Trustee's Office has only been a 'few years in existence, it emplovs two, women inspectors at £200 and £780 respectively, . while a fresh Sold has recently been opened'to women by the Board of Agriculture, and Fisheries. .. They employ throe women nnt.uralists in the Fishery Branch at- £150 per annum, and two junior .assistant naturalists at £2 per week. It is intcrestinc to note that the London Telephone Service offers a few .important posts-to women. There is ono woman superintendent at a salary of from £500 to £30f). and.nine assistant er.pervisors at £150 to £100. SU.PEEPLUOUS HAIR. Mrs. Hullcii.
