On July 13 tlio Conciliation Commissioner m Wellington will hear a dispute between ceitain employers and the \\ ellmgton Branch of the Amalgamated society of Engineers. The Engineers' . Union is asking for an award. which will give a 44 Tiours' week' and overtime. An oxtra 60 per cent, of payment is requested for night-shift workers. An additional Is. per day is 'MKcd for dirty work. The demands include- the following clauses respecting work which entails travel:—."Employees travelling by boat shall, if travelling by coastal boat, be allowed saloon fare'; and if travelling by interstate boat, eccond-cass faro, except when sucli represents steerage, in which caso saloon faro shall bo allowed. When travelling at- night time by train, if at anytime second-class sleeping accommodation is provided, the employer shall allow second-class sleeping berth ticket. Patternmakers, for work done outsido the employer's establishment, shall receive ls.'per day extra." It is desired that the mini ran in wago for the following classes of workmen shall bo Is. Bd. per hour or 13s. 4d. per day for: Fitters, turners, armaturo winders, milling machinists, motor mechanics, brassfinishora, diesinltera and tool-makers, universal grinders, blacksmiths, coppersmiths, oliver smiths, stampers,and drop hammer', forgers, planors, shapers, Blotters,' and borers. Patternmakers ask Is. Bjd. and 13s. Bd.; and drillers, serowers, and other machinists not otherwise mentioned, ask Is. 4id. and lis. In regard to a request recoived by the Abattoirs Committeo of the Citv Council from tho Wellington Live Stock Butchers' Association, that the question of _ appointing separate persons to the positions of manager and inspector at tho Municipal Abattoir sliould bo considered,' the City Council last evening decided to inform, tho association that the council could not eco its way to alter existing arrangements at_ the present timo, and that tho additional expense which would hayo to be incurred was not warranted."
