CALCUTTA SWEEP. A SEQUEL"toTcbITICISMS £r 'AleMaßh-t'rcs* >..,...„„<,„ .<:, inyril . M Calcutta, June 23. Recently, the London "Daily Telegraph" stated that the Jockey Club was considering the effect of tho Calcutta sweep on the Epsom "Derbv "in induoing owners for a consideration" to start their horses, and that prominent members, were of opinion that the practice was'.injurious to sporting, and to the honourable character of-the world's greatest race. . . ~, a-sequel to these criticisms, the .Stewards' Turf Club have decicfed to anolish the distinction between starters and non-starter 3, and divide twenty perocntum of tho Calcutta sweep between them.
