CAMPAIGN OPENS. By 'folesra.ph—Press Association—Copyright Sydney, June' 23. Mr. Cook (Federal Prime Minister) opened, the election campaign at Tamworth. Ho said the country was faced with the most serious situation that had arisen since federation had been established. On one side the Socialists, in stern array, threatened to, capture and subordinate the whole of the legislative machinery to their class aims, and the propaganda of one or two of -the large unions to become l political machines threatened tho whole basis of free <*ovcrltmentL On the other side, the Liberals were attempting to secure the Federal Constitution from predatory hands, and restore a free Parliament to a free people, for the wise purpose of free democracy.
