WANDERERS' SMOKE CONCERT. T ho Wanderers' Association- Football wub. held its annual smoke concert last evemng, Mr. J. M'Crorio presiding. lho chairman expressed jftoasurb'' at,' seeing so many vice-president's of tho' club present, and referred-to the.finan'-; cial support which had,come from these' officers m recent years. Had it not been for them the club would have been unable to have stood t'he drain on its funds. Mr. M'Crorie went on to refer to the' City Council's 1 proposal to increaso the charges on city reserves, and expressed the opinion that- spectator:; should bo charged for admittance to all matches. Mr. C. J. Ward, in proposing the toast, "Association Football, congratulated both the Wellington Football Association and the New Zealand Council on tho marked progress of tho game. He also upheld tho contention'that players should not be taxed, and endorsed the View that the spectators should-be mado. to pay for their sport. ' Mr. A. R. Wright, vice-president, pointed out that tlio City Council 'had dropped tho proposal to increase the rates on city grounds this year, and he expressed tlio opinion that next' year tho raies would be tho samo as hitherto. The toast of "The Wanderers Football Club" was proposed b jr Mr.'W.'Duncan; ( and Mr. M'l'herson, a new member of tho club, who had played for Liverpool, Glasgow Rangers, "and Heart of Midlothian Clubs at Home, responded. Tho following contributed towards the evening's entertainment: —Messrs. T. Holt, D. Hunter, A. Webster, J. Clarke, C. Webster, and Ward '. ... ''. ' '
