THE WELLINGTON CLUB. The Wellington Chess Club had a successful "housowarming" at its new rooms in the Y.M.C.A. Building on Wednesday evening. Twenty-eight players were present. 11l liis opening remarks, Mr. W. F. Earraud (president) mentioned that the club, which completes 38 years' oxist- ' once on July 1, has had to change its I habitat many times. Sometimes it has temporarily had luxurious quarters, bur., ■ at others, it has had to makeshift with cheerless and uninviting rooms. He hoped that they would henceforth experience the happy medium and that they would enjoy many a contest in their new surroundings. Tho presidpnt's remarks were greeted with applause, Which was renewed when he read a telegram from Mr. F. Harvey, an officer of tho Auckland Chess Club, conveying best wishes for a propitious housewarming and success ill the now quarters. Sides wero then chosen by Messrs.
