Mr. Arthur Holmes, the distinguished geologist, using radium as a means of calculation, estimates that the carboniferous period of tho earth's life must have lasted 340 million years,' the Devonian 370 million years, tho preCambrian 900' to 1600 million, Ordovician and Silurian, 430 millions. The additions to these periods gives an enormous period sinco tho carboniferous age.
