The charges were:—-(1) On June 18, theft from tile <l'.vellii)»lioufc of Richard Dwyer (Diifo; of .Edinburgh Hotel), jewellery to the vatac of £V 1, the property of Margaret Dwyer; (2) theft from the same ijotet of jewellery, valued at £4 l'Os., the- property of J|ay Berdinner; (3) theft -en June 15, from the dwellinghoiiso .of Eustace Chaffey (Grand Hotel), jenellon \ lued at £34, the property of Mild'ra Carey Wallace; (4) theft on June 18, from- the dwellinghouse of William 11. Bird (Hotel Windsor); jewellery valued at £17, th© property of Mabel Witheraw and ethers; (5) theft on June 1.8, from lira dwellinghouse of Charles Aldl-idgo (lintel CficiJJ, one watch, valued at £4, the property of Hose Devlin. On the application of Chief Detcctivo Broberg, accused was remanded to appear on June 24. No application for biil was made. UNUSUAL CHARGE. ■ '■ John Johnston was charged with. desertion from the Police Force at Oamaru. Chief Detective Brtfberg stated that accused had been Attested 08 Friday, and a remand till Monday would he necessary. , The remand was panted, and bail war allowed in accused's own recognisance vi £90. •ALLEGED HOL^I'kBREAKING. Phillip George Kc-szler was charged with breaking and entering tils dweliinghouse of William Sing hy night-, and stealing therefrom property t<> this value of £5. _ : Mr. J. F. Dickson,, who appeared for accused, asked for "a remand rail June 24 , and applied for bail. 1 The remand was' granted, and bail was allowed in the sum of £50, or two Gureties of £25 each-. : THEFT~OT~SOOTS. A young man name! George Rees came up for sentfin.se on two charges of theft of three pairs of boots, valued at £2 19s. 6d., the property of R. Hannah and Co., and George Pethprick. The Magistrate (Mr. W. G. Rfddcil, 6,31.) sentenced him to' one -month's iinpri sonmerit on each charge, the septettes to run concurrently. 'INSOBRIETY. For insobriety, "William Harrison.
