TRUE MILKING,STRAIN. At the general meeting of the NewZealand Milking Shorthorn Association, presided over hy Mr. E. Law, of' Shannon, the chairman reported that, so far, they had received 214 entries for the Herd Book, ; and there verb still somo more to come in. Ho detailed tlie results of his southern tour, and remarked that, though ho had seen some very nice cattle of their class, lie was sorry to say that most of them went to too ■ much heof; There were very few that lie would class as being of a true milki ing strain. ' The difficulty in the future would b0..t0 secure bulls of tho true milking Shorthorn type, though this shortcoming would, no doubt, right itself in time. ■ Some discussion aroso on tTie conditions of entry to the- Herd Book, and it was finally decided to recommend to the council that any bull calves over nine months, out of any cows that wore entered in the milking Shorthorn Herd Book by a Shornhorn bull, should, after passing the judge, he eligible for entry.' It was also decided to extend the time for entries to tho Herd Book for a month. Mr .T. Hinton, representing the AVai'kato Association, was present, and intimated that members of his association wero dcsirbits of amalgamating with the New Zealand Association in order to secure uniformity of action and conditions with'Tegard to tho breed. Steps would be taken to form the AVaikato organisation into a branch, of tho Now ( Zealand Association.
