LAND AGENTS ACT
AN INTERESTING POINT. The first-known prosecution under the Land Agents Act, 1912, was hoard in the Magistrate's Court yesterday, when a defendant was charged with acting in the capacity of a land agent without having first obtained a license. It appears that he had been-under some r-mis-apprehension. The Land Agents' Act of 1912, which is the only one in operation at present, makes it compulsory for all land agents to renew their licenses on the first Court day in January oach year. An amended Land Agents' Act was brought down in 1913, and this included a clause which did away with'tho necessity of annual renewal of licenses. This amended Act, however, never became law, and, according to a statement made to a reporter yesterday by Mr. P. Ward, Clerk* of the Magistrate's Court, Wellington, it is compulsory under tho Act in existence for all land agents to renew their licenses from year to year..
