OBITUARY.
FAMOUS WAR CORRESPONDENT. By Telegraph—Frees Association-Copyright London, Juno 17. Mr. Bennett Burleigh, the well-known war correspondent, who has represented the "Daily Telegraph" since 1882. is dead. Mr. Bennett Burleigh was born in Scotland, and soon gave evulenco of his ad-venture-loving disposition, • for, whgn he was quite young the Civil War broke out in tho United States, and he persuaded his father to allow him to go to America in order to fight on the Confederate side. He rose to the position of captain, and Captain Burleigh is even to-day by no means forgotten by those who fought with him at the time. As a war correspondent he acted for the Central News, throughout the first Egyptian A\ar, and 'was present at the Battle of Tel-el-Kebir. In the second phase of that war he represented the "Daily Telegraph," and was present at the battles of -El Tcb, Tamai, etc. As the "Telegraph's" correspondent he accompanied the desert column from Korti to Metammah, was with the Ashanti Expedition,' the Spanish Riff campaign, Greek War, Atbara Expedition, Egyptian War (including Omdurman), South African War, Soinaliland War, Russo-Japanese War, and Tripoli Italian campaign. His publications include: "Two Campaigns" and "Empire of the East." ' : RAILWAY VICE-PRESIDENT. Montreal, June 17. Mr. Martin M. Reynolds, second vicepresident of the Grand Trunk Pacific I Railroad Company, is dead. He was 'the late Mr. Hayes's successor.
