BOWLS
LYALL BAY CLUB. At the annual meeting of the Lvall Bay Bowling, and Tennis Club, Mr* J. K. Stauscll presided, and about fifty members were present. The following officers were elected:— Directors, Messrs. 0. J. Ashton, R. M'Kcnsdo, W. 11. Morrah; president, Mr. J. C. T'onks; secretary, Miv W. H. Morrah; treasurer, Mr. 0. J. Ashton; auditor, Mr. H. A. Ward; selector, Mr. J. G. "Brown; delegates to the Wellington Bowling Centre, Mr. J; C. Tonks and Mr. W. H. Morrah; ladies' croquet committee, Mesdamcs Jones, Morrah, Rigg, Critchley, and Ward. During the evening the trophies won last season-were presented to the winners. Votes of 'ihanks were passed to the retiring director, Mr. G. E. Smith, and tho retiring president, Mr.,J. R. Stansell. '■ - WELLINGTON. CLUB. The twenty-eighth annual report of the Wellington Bowling Club, to be presented to shareholders at the annual meeting on Juno 21, has been circulated among members. Following' are e.\tracts from the report:— "Wo commenced tho year with a debit balance of £306 6s. 3d., and we close with a debit balance of £128 17s. 3d._, thus showing an improvement of £177' 9s. on the year's working. "During the y,ear 21 new members were elected: losses from resignations and other causes were 18, making the present membership (including' ten country members) 207. "We regret to.record that during the past season death has removed Mr. J. Bums, one of' our oldest members,' and Mr. W; Brunskill,' our late hoh.-'secre-tary. Tho directors desire to place on record their deep appreciation of .the splendid work the lato Mr. W. Brunskill did on behalf of .tho club during the years lie held office; and, "■ as a memento to his memory, have decided to pliicetin tho club-house a photograph of him, suitably inscribed. "Tho greens havo been carefully attended to, and your - directors' have every confidence- that they will bo in first-class playing order at the opening of the 1914-15 season.". VICTORIA' CLUB. .. "Tho membership at the beginning of the financial year '.was 99; 12 now members were elected, and. 11 resigned; the number now on the books-is. 100. of whom four are 'country members.' Tho club wili'fool the loss of' Mr. TVS. Mayer, who, having removed from the City, resigned his membership in April. The directors desire to place on record their high appreciation of' hi 3 valuable services. .■■.'•'■ •■ . ■ "At the. general meotinc of shareholders held qn July 14, 1913, suggestions'for alterations to the club's.property wore discussed and a scheme then proposed by the directors was agreed to: Tenders were called for the work. The lowest tenderer jueclihed to' proceed, tho next, was informal, and the directors considered tho next 'one .too' High: It was, "therefore, decided to undertake the work by day labour* Messrs.' Townsend and Snaddon undertaking to direct operations, the work was. carried through at a :cost of £220 18s. '2d., which r tho directors consider satisfactory. Through an unfortunate set of circumstances, the greon was not in as good condition at'the'beginning of tho season as could have been desired. Tho Ground Committee, however, toon had the rinks in good order. "Tlio directors again express tho pleasure the club has derived from tho assistance of lady friends, who have so willingly attended to the preparation of afternoon tea on Saturdays. "All tho directors retire from office, and the following nominations havo been, received:—For president, Mr. G. Snaddon; secretary. Mr. F. J. Evans; treasurer. Mr. W. N. Tucker: directors, Messrs. J. NEWTOWN BOWLING CLUB. The annual meeting of tlie Newtown Bowling Club,- Ltd., was held on Wednesday. Mr. J. Gallic presided over, an attendance of about fifty members.; TJio annual report and balance-sheet l , already published were adopted; There was considerable discussion' on the pennant proposals brought forward by Mr. Underwood. ' In this connection it was decided to instruct the club's delegate to the centre to support the proposals. \ r . ■ . . The delegates were also instructed to support the proposal to institute pennant games for Wednesday players, one at home and one away, and also Mr. Roberts's proposal that tho Edwin 'Feathers be made a centre rink championship trophy. The club delegates were also instructed to endeavour to have the Junior Pennant championship revived by the centre. Mr. G. Scott moved: "That the Management Committee consist of one or more members to bo elected by tho members at the annual meeting, instead of being chosen by direct means" was defeated. An amendment to the effect "that the members elect from the directors already elected, three members to form a management' committee," was carried. Messrs. Gallie, Laughton, and, Underwood were accordingly elected.' Honorariums of £6 Cs. and £4 4s. .wero voted to secreta : y and treasurer respectively.
