INTERESTING FARMERS' TOPICS. PAPERS AT CONFERENCE. IBy Telegraph.—Special Corre&nondenD. Palmorston, Juno 18. The 1914 National Dairy Show has been the record show. Not only is it a.record for variety of exhibits and.their quality, but, already, three attendance records have been broken. On. the first day tho takings were .£ls in excess of last year. On the second day a'bigger margin was established, when the best single 'lay's takings in any previous year wero bettered by .£54; A conservative estimate of the attendance was 12,500. To-day still another record was established, when the dull but pleasant day tempted about 14,000 people to the big exhibition. So far as-the actual business of the show was concerned, thero is little to record to : day, all tho judging having'becn completed. Yesterday tho National Dairy Conference concluded- its deliberations, when ; three papers were read. ' The butter judging competition was won by J. Middletq'n (Canterbury Co-op. Dairy Co.), and T. C. Irving (Greytown), who tied for first place. The cheese competition was also won by J. Jliddleton, with G. Woods (Mntamau) second. Butter Judging Competition, The ring attractions comprised an interesting display by the hounds of the Mnriairntn.Huiit.Olnb, and three jumping competitions; • The pony leaping was won ■by Mr. E. Oliver's Temuka, Mr. W. Little's. Tom Tit being second, and. Mr. \V; Scott's entry third. There were, seven contestants, and some very fine-jumping was witnessed.• There was ,a big. entry in the maiden hunters' competition, ami, after a good contest, Mr. Bruce M'Ewen's Lady Belle was awarded first prize,? Mr. 'R. T. Samson's Gulden Globe being, second, and Mr. 1!. Jl'Dowell's Father, third. The big event of the : day-was the hunters' competition for the .Collinson and Cunninghame Gup,, the riders.competing in the full hunting costume.- Out.of twenty-four entries, Mr. .1. Crook's.Gypsy Dot was''.placed first, Mr. Ivan Shaw's Kaka second,' and Mr. <E. Foster's -Blank. Bush third. All through • tho jumping was of a high order. To-night a very successful smoke'concert' was held under the auspices. of the association. •
