IMPORTANT CONFERENCE

FvMassey) performed the official opening of the annual Winter Show of tho Manawatu Agricultural and Pastoral Association to-day> Mr. Massey arrived by the New Plymouth train, and was received on.'.the platform by tho president'(Mr. F. M;jßae),"a'ud "the" executive committee of the"association, and also/by Mr. D. Bnickc! M-P..V- thovMayor.' of; Palmerston: (Mr. "J/.' A. ; Nash),' and numerous other representative citizens. He at oiico: proceeded!: to .tho showgrounds, and spent 6omo time.in inspecting tho principal exhibits. Shortly-after noon the 'Prime Minister officially, opened the show, and received awnosTE 'cordial- reception from • ''the largeA gathering- present. 'After tho official; ceremony -.was -oyer, ho, attended the ahiiiial meeting of the National Dairy , ' wag- attended by somo '■' three hundred dairy farmers representing practically.-tho whole of tho West Coast districts of the North Island. On entering the' room Mr. Massey was accorded a rousing reception, the whole of the delegates rising and singing "For He's a Jolly Good-Fellow." ; The Prime Minister, : .who spoke "in his capacity as Minister of Agriculture, in response to a unanimous call) delivered an address which, is reported elsewhere. A- glorious day greeted visitors to tho 'National Dairy Show, aud they came in thousands, niakiag another record attendance. ,Tho association has certainly been fortunate, .in its; .weather, ;and already tho ■ financial success of the' fixture is assured. To-day's proceedings were featured >by a conference of great interest to lcadingi farmers. It began at 9.30 a.m.,' whdn delegates' from all over New Zealand met in the A,-and P. Association's Lecture Hall to dis'cuss radical proposals for '.the marketing of produce in London. ': ' " ' / 'College Football Match. . 'I'lur inter-college'-' football'- match—Te Autbv. Wanganui—was again a great draw,'being witnessed by about. 10,000 people. Once, more "Wanganui were victorious in'both-matches. In the junior game the Te Auto"boys wcro completely outclassed,' and, after' a straggling 'exhibition, were defeated ,by 22 points to nil. Wanganui were . extremely ■ fortunate in ; winning the senior'game. Novel Chess Outfit. "To-day- the great exposition looked its best, the finishing touches' having been nut on machinery, products, poultry, and '':.., the hundred other minor exhibits which . make : a national dairy show. A small 'but sisrnificant exhibit, which is attractv.ing -attention is a chess-board anil chessmen made from casein. It is'placed at . the end of the butter and cheese exhibit.
