Tlie "Daily Chronicle" (Liberal) urges that legislation should be passed to regularise the position of the Public Trustee, which is becoming ono of . tho largest Departments. It already had i2O millions in business investments, and might conceivably have 500 million within twenty years. Yet tho Trustee was not responsible to any Minister. Ho holds eight and a quarter- millions in homo railways, rivalling the greatest'banks. His vote on such a question as railway men's wages might bo of national importance.
