THE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT
Some of the. Ohristchurch papers stated on Monday that Mr. T. R. CrcssveJl, principal of the Ranpiora High School,- had been "temporarily appointed, for six months,-Assistant'inspector-General of Secondary Schools, Dr. Anderson, who hold that position, succeeding Mr. G. Hogben as Inspector-General of Schools." Mr.' Hogben, when ho was approached last evening, said that these statements, were , without foundation: He was still Inspcctor-General, and Dr. Anderson was Assistant-Inspec-tor-General of Schools (not of secondary schools only) The Inspector Of Secondary Schools is Mr. T. H. Gill, and tho position to which Mr. Cresswell has Jjeen temporarily appointed is that of Assistant-Inspector of Secondary schools. While it is truo that Mr. Hogben's retirement from tho position of In-spector-Genoral is in prospect, no date has yet been fixed, and tho question of delecting his successor has therefore not been raised.
