Tn the course of the paper Mr. Dfy-s-' dale said that the old system of farmini: bad, to a great extent disappeared, .could not be-again used proflMiy. The conditions under which farming was dosa 1?.,™ early , days were gonfi, 'These -eonditioDs of the past had served t!h£ir put|ose, but now attention to bifeding and: (ceding was essontial, . .Sometimes e.rossbred bulls were successful, but how 'maviy miserable failures were, there? The crosst>red i cow, also, was less reliable tlnn thn purebred. Th© better the herd, the ifiore important it was to solect a purebred bull which would mate suitably with the cows. It was suggested that eyeiy ' dairyman should haye a purebred herd. With the present high •prices this was impos ib e but the question must, nevertheless, bs seriously considered. The kind of entile favoured should bo decided upon with due regard to the nature of tho country, etc. The feeding and care Of the dairy herd was of the greatest importance if a satisfactory return was to his {jbtaiftedWaa it not possible, by juditjiotis to stay the advent of the annual fall :in the milk yield? Further, provision lmd to be made to carry stock properly ovw the winter, and, if the datfymai only realised how. lo.ss might -be turned tft profit, ho would give more attention to feeding. Kindness to dairy cows wis profitable also. • The cows appreciated kindness, and resented being: kr.ockrd about. Kapidity was ono of the great essentials in milking, for the greater the speed tho greater was the percentage of-butter-fat and,.moreover, by tj.niqk milking a greater yield was obtained. . The readings of the scales and the festers w«f« much relied on, but one had to look beyond this system and do tho host passi hip in the dairying business. . A vote of thanks was accorded ' jfr. Drysdale for his paper. ~
