NATIONAL DAIRY SHOW
PRELIMINARY AWARDS IN DAIRY PRODUCE CLASSES. (Bj Teleerapli-Special Eeporter.i Palmerston North, June 15. : The eleventh annual National Dairy Show opens here to-morrow, and the promoters are hopeful that it will be a record show, llio chief features are the dairy factory competitions in export butter and cheese. There are 107 entries in the butter classes, ami 123 in the cheese division. The Karangi and Stratford dairy factories have tied for the butter championship for New k>aland, • and, on tho whole, the competition was' keen throughout'. The butter was judged in the grading stores ni Wellington by members ot the dairy division of the- State Department of Agriculture. The official report on the entries states that they are of very good quality, and that, with only one or two exceptions, all showed good keeping properties. Tliore is great uniformity amongst the exhibits, and this is, of course, important in respect of butter made for export. The authorities consider the butter to be highly creditable to the makers. Much interest was displayed in the butter competitions for the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company's Cup, and the result is that tho trophy goes to the Tamalti Dairy Company. The cheese,is of good quality, and the judges bestow particular praise on the winning exhibit. The only criticism which they have to offer is that somo of the cheeses are too open. Other entries show encouraging increases. The additioii to the ring ovents of ,a primary schools competition,' cmbracing some of the most popular branches of athletics, has greatly increased the number of entries under the general head of competitions. A dearth of Mauawatu-grown' roots and orops on tho benches is said to bo the result of bad weather earlier in the year, but goo dcntric3 in this section have como forward from ether districts'. The Stato Department of Agriculture has a fine comprehensive exhibit in the apartment customarily set aside for its use. The official opening takes place at noon to-morrow, and the Prime Minister (Hon. W. E. Massey) has been invited to perform tho ceremony. CHEESE HONOURS. | 2 - « 'a 11 I „ En , rt.
