CLYDESDALE HORSES
SOCIETY'S ANNUAL MEETING. Tho following officers were elected nt tho animal meeting of the Clydesdale Horso Society of New Zealand: —President, Mr. Alex; Hunter (Hawera); vice-presidents, Messrs. J. \V. Harding (Wniptikumu), Wilfred Johnstone (Papatoetoo), James Gow (Wingatui), and Thos. Logan (Otama), council, Messrs. Hugh Campbell (llawke's Bay), A. E. Harding (Mangawhare), L. ■ li. Hamilton (Mamitahi), James Knight (Peilding), James W. Blair (Outrani), W. J. J. Charters (Mosgiel), 11. E. Dahlenburg (Waikouro), and j. A. Johnstone (Dunedin); auditor, Mr. Peter Barr. lit tho course of some remarks, Mr. jJ.-W. Blair, who presided, commended the scliqino for advertising New Zealand Clydesdales at the Panama Exposition. It seemed to him that an opportunity i ivas-thus given of bringing their horses under the notico of the agricultural public of British Columbia, the Pacific States, .and of South America. Horses sent would, no doubt, lose the breeding and show seasons here, and lie was not. in a .position to say whether the loss 'entailed;. be recompensed or not by sending New Zealand exhibits; but in any case tlio opportunity to show their stock abroad was worth considering. ; Mr. J.';.A. Johnston? made flattering reference ( to tlio sterling work of Mr. A. Hunter)', of Hawera, in the matter of prociiriut; valuable matter for tlio Stud Book, which, he thought, would prove of-, inestimable value to breeders. At a meeting of the council ; held prior to the annual meeting it was decided to : affiliate with the Chamber of Agriculture, Mr..Hunter and the secretary being appointed to Represent tho societv at the Chamber's conference, to be held in i July at Wellington.
