Tlio Right Hon. W. F. Massey (Prime Minister) will be in Wellington until Thursday nest, when 110 will go to Auckland for a few days. The Hon. Jas. Allen leaves fori tho south to-night and will speak at Kaitangata 011 Monday night. Roturning to' Wellington on Thursday lie will set out on tho same day for Blenheim and I'icton. At each of these towns Sir. Allon is to deliver a political address and ho will get back to Wellington on Saturday noxt. Tlio Hon. W. H. Herries is at Tauranga. Tho Hon. 11. 11. Rhodes will bo at AkaToa to-day, but is expected to rotum to Wollingtou almost immediately. ' Tho Hon. W. Fraser will bo in town until Wednesday when ho proceeds t-o Picton. The Hon. A. L. Hordman, the Hon. F 51. B. Fisher, and tlio Hon. H. D. Bell are in Wellington.

Mr. Justice Ilosking, who presided over tho criminal sessions of thq Supremo Court at Napier , this Week, returned to Wellington last-evening. At tho beginning of next week, His Honour proceeds to Nelson where ho takes the quarterly sessions of tho Suprome Court. His Honour tho Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout) leaves on Monday for Napier for the purpose'of presiding over tho civil sittings of tho Court, in that district.

Dr. J. Allan Thomson, Director of tho Dominion Museum, loft by the Navua for Fiji this week to pursue his investigations into tho origin of the Maori race.

Professor Prince, Canadian Commissioner of Fisheries, and Mr. L. P. Ayeon, Chief Inspector of New Zealand will return to Wellington from Westland (via Christchurch) on Sunday morning. Professor Prince then proceeds north, to visit Auckland, Rotorua, and Taupo, returning to Wellington by, way of Napier. ;

Mr. E. T. Fisk, genoral manager of tlio Amalgamated Wireless (Australasia) C'cmpany, left Wellington last night for Rotorua, and proceeds to Auckland early next week. Ho will return to Wellington after a few.(lays' stay in the northern centre.

Mr. V. G. Clark has been appointed Commissioner of Taxes in succession to Sir. J. 51. King, who recently rctirod on superannuation. Mr, .Clai'lc, who was born in 18G8, received his education at tho public schools, Wellington College, and later at Canterbury ColJogo. He joined tjlio Civil Service in 1885, and has sinco filled various positions iii the Land and Income Tax Department, including those of Inspecting Accountant, Clerk .in Charge, and latterly Deputy-Cbmmissionor.

A presentation of a purse of sovereigns and a farewell address was made at Timaru last evening to Colonel and Mrs, C. S. Bailoy by the public of South Canterbury. The Mayor, Mr. Guinness, presidod' over a largo gathering. Many eulogistic; references were made to' the colonel's sterling qualities both as a military, man a.nd ,a citizen. Colonel Bailoy lias resided in Timaru for thirty-two years, and has been officer commanding tho South Canterbury Territorial district. At tho mooting of the Wellington Educational Institute last night, a motion of appreciation for his services to the institute was passed to Mr. T." M. Yates, on his retirement from ,the headmastership of tho Hutt School. At tho meeting of the Wellington Educational'lnstitute last night,' the' chairman (Mr. J. Tamblin) spoko in appreciation of tlm services rendered to education by Mr. ' R. Lee, retiring' chairman of tho Education Board. Ho moved that the institute should place on record its high appreciation of Mr. Lee's services as Inspector of Schools • and chairman of the Education Board. He was sure they, all wished him a happy holiday from his > duties. Tho motion was carried unanimously. The Rov.' S. 'J. Serpell, of Masterten, who is this year president of the Methodist Conference, is paying an official visit to tho Auckland district. The Hon. E. Farrar, M.L.C.,of New South Wales, who has been, spending somo six weeks in the Dominion, left for Sydney by the Maunganui last evening. Mr. C. H. Matthews, general manager for Messrs. Alcock and Co., left by tho Maunganui yesterday on a business, trip to . Mr. J. R. Scott, secretary of. the South Island , Dairy Association, was a passenger'from Dunedin by the Mokoia yesterday. He is proceeding to the National Dairy Show at Palm'erston North. Mr. A. H. Miles, resident partner of Messrs. Murray, Roberts ana Co., arrived by tlio same vessel. Tho death occurred at Gladstone on Friday morning of Mrs. Sexton, a very well-known resident of the district. The deceased lady, who was 68 years of nge r had been ailing for some time. She leaves five daughters, Mesdames W. Strang, P. Cooper, and N. Grace, and Misses Jessie and Mary Sexton, and three sons, Messrs. F., G., and E. Soxton. - Mr. T. F. Hewat, a member of the Pahiatua Borough Council, will represent that body, at the conference of local bodies and chambors of commerce ( to bo'held in Wellington next month. It has boon docidcd to form a brand of the St. John Ambulance Association in l'ahiatua.
