HUTT & PETONE NEWS.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) The annual re-union of tho employees of the Gear Company was held last evening in St. Augustine's Hall, Potone, under the auspices of the Gear Company's Fire Brigade. About 160 persons were present, and tlie function proved a great success. Several of the heads of departments were present. Messrs. Hickey and Parrant, junr., acted as M.C.'s, and Mr. L. Simpson was pianist. During the evening songs were rendered by Miss Foster and Foreman Foathorston, and Fireman List recited "The Fireman's Dream." In spite of a heavy downpour of rain, t hero, was a record attendance at tho Petono Drill Hall last evening, tho occasion being tho third annual social of the Fetouo "Woollen Mill employees. Upwards of 250 persons were present, and a. feature of the gathering was the decorated supper tables. Tho M.C.'s were Messrs. .C. Brocklcbank, ' N. M'Dougall, T. Price, and J. Ingham, and tho music was supplied by Mrs. Pollock's orchestra. . The Petone Ladies' Social Committee, held a successful evening at tlie Buick Street Hall last night, Mr. D". Frascr acting as M.C., and Mrs. Fraser as accompanist. It was intimated that in future fortnightly socials would be held in St. Augustine's Hall, commencing on Friday. Juno 26.
