Hnselden, S.JI., when Donald Monro, ivholcsalo licensee, was charged with selling one bottle of intoxicating liquor. Ho was lined £10 and costs.
THE GAMBLER'S PATH. Auckland, Juno 11. In the Supremo Court, William Robaged 19 years, charged with breaking and entering and theft of a chequo Tor £22 and forging an endorsemont, confessed. It appeared that ho had boon indulging too freely in games of chance. Ho was put on three years' probation on condition that he does not enter an hotel or billiard-room &ud remains with his father, who is a farmer. ECHO OF SHAW CASES. Timarti, June 11. Mr. Justice Sim was occupied all day to-day over a caso arising out of tho misappropriations by Walter Shaw, late, ly a solicitor. The plaintiff, J. •W. Phillips, claims release of a ;mortgago for £300 to Dr. Dryden, the amount bavins been-paid to Shaw, but not paid over to defendant, who, therefore, refused the' release. The proceeding disclosed that Shaw had actejl for' both parties. Tho case was not finished. VIGIL IN A SHOP. Reefton, Juno .11. John Clark, nightwatchnian, was today committed for trial on a charge of breaking and entering and stealing a joint of beef, valued at 3s. 6d., on May 15 last. Sergeant Murray and the owner of tho butcher's shop,'-hid in the shop, and it was alleged in evidence that at 4 a.m. accused entered, selected a joint, and was stopped when leaving. TITLES COMMISSION. Reefton, June 11. The West Coast Titles Commission concluded its sitting here to-day. Much evidence was heard as to mining titles, reservation of timber areas for mining purposes, and prospective damage by the proposed hydraulic sluicing works s on .farm lands. .. , ■ ' FIRE ON COLLIER. Dunodin, June 11. A fire was discovered on tho steamer Pohorua at the wharf at mid-day. It started in the lamp-room, a number of lamps being rendered useless, and the paintwork on tho cabins on each side being blistered. Tho fire spread to the bridge, but was thon discovered, and promptly extinguished.- The damage done, to the vessel was very small. .'< LAWYER IN TROUBLE. Invercargill, June 11. At the Supreme Court, on the application of tho Law Society, Mr. Justice Denniston mado an order suspending J. S. Neavo from practising as a barrister and solicitor on the ground of misappropriation of funds. His Honour said no could not make tho order absolute, as the matter had to go' to tho Appoal Court. .-, . . .
