WELLINGTON SOUTH
PROGRESSIVE SOCIETY MEETS, The first annual me6ting of tho Wellington South Progressive' Society was held in St. Thomas's Hall, Newtown, last night. The president. (Mr. J. Castle) occupied the chair, about 30 members being present. Tho report of the society, a synopsis of which has been published, was submitted and adopted. Mr. A. A. George warmly congratulated the society on tho work of the year, and paid a tribute to tho'services rendered to tlio society and tho citizens by tho president, -tho compliment to Mr. Castle being heartily endorsed by' tho mooting. The election of officers , for the ensuing year resulted as follows:—President, Mr. A. A. George; vice-presidents, Messrs.' J. Castle, H. Cooper, W. Wylie, H. W. Preston, and Rev. J. Crewes; cominittce, Messrs. R. H, Jenkins, D. Campbell, F. J; Caterer, J. M. Boveridge, W.' Murdock, L. Gcodger, G. Matthews, M. G. Greenside, A. C. Hooper, E. C. Liuhvig, W. A. Worth, H. D. Bedell; secretary, Mr. J. Castle; treasurer, Mr. A. Crosby (re-elected); auditor, Mr. R. Brown; legal adviser, Mr. E. J. Fitzgibbon. A hearty vote of thanks was tendered Mr. E. C. Ludwig for his services to the society diiring the rast four months in the capacity of acting-secretary. On tho motion of Mr. J. Castle, a hearty voto of thanks was accorded' to the Press of Wellington for the'generous support they had given to the efforts of the society to further tho interests of Wellington South. There was no discussion with regard to tho loan proposals of . tho Mayor of Wellington, but it was agreed to appoint Mr. A. A. George (president) and Mr. J. Castle (secretary) a committee to watch the loan proposals and make aiiy recomman lations deemed advisable at the public meeting to bo held in connection with tho matter.
On tho motion of tho Rev. Mr. Crowes, members of tho society not on tho executive were asked to send in suggestions' regarding the loan proposals to the secretary as 6opn as practicable, a meeting of tho executive to be held at an early dato to consider sujli suggestions. Six new members were elected at the meeting, bringing the roll-call of the society un to 118. It was decided to reduce the quorum •for a goneral meeting to ten members. It previously stood at fifteen.
