DIVER'S REPORT EXPECTS.TO RECOVER THE BODIES By Teleffraph—Press AEeociation—CopjTieht Quebec, Juno 8. A diver who descended to inspect the wrecked Empress of Ireland reports that he expects to recover tho bodies of thoso entombed in tho hull. The Empress of Ireland is lying sideways in thirty fathoms of water. ROYAL SYMPATHY FOR THE SALVATION ARMY. (Rec. Juno 9, 9.55 p.m.) London, June 8. The King gavo an audience to General Bramwell .Booth, tho Head of the ■Salvation Army, and expressed his sorrow at tho loss sustained by tho Salvation Army in tho Empress of Ireland disaster. His Majesty evinced keen interest in tho Army's work. Referring to th© cabled statement (published yesterday) attributed to Commissioner M'Kie in reference to the Empress of Ireland disaster, Lieutenant-Colonel Powlej, SalvaSimi Army iliief secre'tary, for New Zealand, says'that Commissioner M'Kie must havo been misunderstood. "It is unthinkable," says Colonel Powley, "that ho should hold or give expression to such an idea. To suggest that God would visit his displeasure on the Army in such way, involving as it did tho loss •of hundreds of lives, and causing widespread sorrow to thousands of people who have no connection with the Army, is manifestly absurd. I do not believe lie said ; any such thine." [Commissioner M'Kie asserted that the terrible loss the Army had sustained by the Empress of Ireland disaster was a direct criticism from Heaven, and that the Army would endeavour to find.out the faults which caused it to receive the Divine -rebuke.]
